Five minutes a day is enough to start
Many people give up on Bible reading because they plan too much. An hour on a Sunday feels like a test. Five minutes on a Tuesday feels like a habit. Start with five.
Choose a short passage
A single chapter of Psalms, a chapter from John, or the whole of Ecclesiastes 12 will do. Short books such as Ruth, Philippians and Jude are good first choices, because you can finish them in a few weeks.
Stop at a natural point
Read until the end of a paragraph or a chapter, then stop. Stopping early is better than rushing to the end, because it leaves you with something to think about during the day.
Write one sentence
Before you close the Bible, write one sentence: what the passage said, or what it made you want to do. That is the whole practice.
